Fremont County Broadband Feasibility Study

Broadband access and reliability are of the utmost importance for all communities as information, communication, safety, and other needs are more and more reliant on the proliferation of web-enabled technology. Accessible and reliable broadband connectivity provides multiple benefits to communities, such as enabling more effective economic development efforts, streamlining government services, enhancing educational experiences, and increasing the interoperability of police, fire, health, and other government entities providing crucial public safety services – to name a few. However, a large proportion of rural communities throughout the nation, let alone Colorado, have been neglected in the implementation and roll-out of broadband infrastructure. Historically, broadband implementation was left to internet service providers (ISPs) who focused their efforts on highly populated, urban areas to maximize their return on investment. This situation has left many rural communities struggling to find effective ways to entice private investment, typically leading to piecemeal efforts.

The purpose of this study is to perform an evaluation of current access to reliable Broadband throughout Fremont County and to offer suggestions on how to improve this for those residing within the County.

Help Us Better Understand Broadband Availability and Speed Where You Live and Work!

In order to identify and prioritize potential future investments in broadband infrastructure throughout Fremont County, we need to develop a better understanding of where broadband is currently available, and what the quality (speed/reliability) of that access is.

Through this project, we've partnered with the Colorado Broadband Office to utilize the State's currently available broadband survey to support this process. For the purposes of the County's efforts, the survey window will run from February through May 2023, at which time the State has agreed to provide County-specific responses to to the project team to support the completion of the study. Please consider responding to support this important effort. Note: Clicking the link will open a new tab and redirect to the Colorado Broadband Survey.

Have Internet Access Now, but Not at Home?

We're looking to gather as much information as possible, including information about locations without access. If you currently have access to the internet (at work or on a mobile device), but not at your home, please consider completing the alternative survey linked below to let us know where it's lacking.  Note: Clicking the link will open a new tab and redirect to the "No Broadband Service Report" form.
